A Brief History of Bucovina   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
The importance of Bucovina to Moldavia is evidenced in the fact that three former capitals of Modalvia (Suceava, Radauti, and Siret) were located in the region.
The Russians were finally driven out of Bucovina in 1917 and a year later, in 1918, the peoples of Bucovina as well as those in Transylvania, Bessarabia and other territories declared their formal union with the Kingdom of Romania.
Bucovina was one area of intense focus and, after having changed hands a number of times during the course of World War II, it eventually ended up by terms of the Paris Peace Treaty (1947) under control of the Soviets.
