Bud Cort - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bud Cort, an American actor, was born Walter Edward Cox on March 29, 1948, in New Rochelle, New York.
Cort feared being typecast after playing Harold; he was offered the role of Billy Bibbit opposite Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but he wanted Nicholson's role instead.
Cort continues to act, and recently appeared in Kevin Smith's Dogma, Pollock, and the latest film by director Wes Anderson, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.

Bud Cort will always be known for appearing as the death-fixated, geriatric-loving Harold in Hal Ashby's cult favorite "Harold and Maude" (1971), in which he co-starred with Ruth Gordon.
Cort was a college dropout performing stand-up and sketch comedy at Greenwich Village clubs when Robert Altman cast him as Private Boone in "M*A*S*H" (1970).
Subsequently, Cort was cast as Alex West, who inherited "The Bates Motel" (NBC, 1987) as well as the internal angst of Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) in a spin-off, of sorts, from Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic "Psycho".

Cort's role in the movie is small, but it's a tribute to his acting chops that he brings added life to a part that, in the wrong hands, could easily have been overlooked.
Anderson (who was 2 when "Harold and Maude" came out) says what drew him to Cort were the actor's minor but effective roles in the 2000 biopic "Pollock" (as Howard Putzel, Peggy Guggenheim's charming right-hand man) and the 1995 thriller "Heat" (as a surly restaurant worker).
