He is best known as part of a double act with Chesney Allen, Flanagan and Allen.
The song was a deliberate pastiche of the sort of songs Flanagan had sung during the war and, being so nostalgic, was very popular with the public.
This Bud Flanagan is not to be confused with American actor Dennis O'Keefe who also used the name Bud Flanagan for many film roles in the 1930s.

The charity was formed in September 1969 by the executors of the late Bud Flanagan who was a well known comedian, entertainer and songwriter.
Bud had lost a son to leukaemia and wanted part of his estate to be used for the purposes of research into and treatment of the disease and the relief of its victims.
