Bud Olson was first elected to the House of Commons in 1957 as a Social Credit MP from the Alberta city of Medicine Hat.
Olson was unsuccessful in his attempt to return to Parliament in 1974 and in 1977 Trudeau appointed him to the Canadian Senate.
Olson served as leader of the opposition in the Senate in 1979 and returned to Cabinet when the Trudeau Liberals returned to power in 1980 serving as Minister of Economic and Regional Development from 1980 to 1984 as well as Leader of the Government in the Senate.

Always the pragmatist, Olson decided his chances of making a difference with the Liberals, who had no seats in Alberta at the time, were greater than with the Conservatives, who dominated western Canadian seats.
Olson supported Pierre Trudeau's Liberal leadership campaign and was appointed minister of agriculture after winning his first election as a Liberal in 1968.
Olson's favourite cabinet portfolio was one he held as a senator--minister of economic and regional development from 1980 to 1984.

Olson died February 14, 2002 at Medicine Hat, Alberta and was buried at Rainy Hill Cemetery in Iddesleigh, Alberta.

He was an executive member of the Northern Alberta Curling Association from 1948 to 1968 and served a term as president.

Bud is the President of the Eastern Fresno County Historical Society, a group of people dedicated to saving the past of our area.

Olson Everett D. "Bud" Olson, age 91, of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully 9/20/03.
Bud was employed at NWA from 1938-1947 as Superintendent of Systems during the construction of the Alcon Highway in Alaska.
A celebration of his life will be held for his family and friends in Sarasota in late October.

Sheriff Olson, who came to Carver County from the Minnetonka Police Department, was elected Sheriff first in 1998 and then re-elected by the citizens of Carver County in 2002.
When Sheriff Olson sought to be initially elected as Carver County Sheriff in 1998, the Sheriff's Department was in the midst of a huge scandal involving it's former Chief Deputy.
Carver County Sheriff Bud Olson has previously been a guest on an hour long Old Tyme Music Internet Show that I host which is heard (literally) around the world five times a week on www.247polkaheaven.com.

 Police looking for kidnapping suspect | Chaska Herald
Carver County Sheriff Bud Olson said a father and two of his children returned to their Chanhassen home Thursday night when the family was confronted by a masked man with a gun.
“He was very desperate to hold these people at gunpoint for 14 hours.” Olson said members of the family were physically fine after the ordeal but noted that it was an extremely traumatic experience.
Olson said law enforcement agencies were notified of the vehicle the suspect took from the family around 10:30 a.m.
