Bud Shank -- Newsletter October 1997
The Bud Shank Jazz Workshop and Festival was a stellar success this year, with the best attendance in 15 years for both Festival and workshop sessions.
Bud is quite determined to keep his show in the mainstream vein, without the sideways influences of peripheral types of music that are watering down and distorting so many "jazz" festivals worldwide.
At a recent concert, a young man approached Bud, shook his hand, and said "Your workshop is the best thing that ever happened to me in my life." Which is probably why Bud doesn't hang it up and go off to smell the roses.
