 Bud Yorkin
Yorkin first made his name as a director and producer of TV comedy and variety shows in the 1950s.
In 1959 he teamed up with Norman Lear to found Tandem Productions and made his feature directing debut four years later with the Neil Simon adaptation "Come Blow Your Horn" (1963).
Yorkin has directed several first-rate comedies (usually produced by Lear), notably "Start the Revolution Without Me" (1970); he was also responsible for the finely observed family drama, "Twice in a Lifetime" (1985)....

The plot in this film by Bud Yorkin is a wonderful mishmash of Dumas, Victor Hugo, and Molière, with the peasant brothers joining the revolutionaries while their bizarrely foppish siblings eat cake and ignore the events around them.
Wilder and Sutherland are joined by a who's who of British comedy stars, including Billie Whitelaw, Hugh Griffith, and Victor Spinetti (and a cameo by Orson Welles)--yet this film flopped upon release, only to become a cult item among college students of the period.
The DVD presentation is good and the commentary soundtrack by Wilder, Sutherland and Yorkin is worth hearing for any fan of the film.

"Gene Hackman is the perfect image of a blue-collar working guy," says the film's producer and director, Bud Yorkin.
Also recently divorced at the time, Yorkin worked with screenwriter Colin Welland (Chariots of Fire) to personalize the events with his own recollections.

The mono soundtrack is workable, though surround use would have been nice for the goofy, harpsichord-heavy soundtrack.
The only extra feature (besides the trailer) is a commentary track with Gene Wilder, Donald Sutherland and director Bud Yorkin.
Sadly, this could have been a better track, as it’s obvious they were recorded at separate timesÂ…but some funny comments pop up here and there.

Sanford and Son was the second TV series from Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin, who created the groundbreaking "All in the Family" the year before.
The same people (Norman Lear, Bud Yorkin, etc.) who dominated 1970s television comedy by bringing us All in the Family (1971), Maude (1972), Good Times (1974), and The Jeffersons (1975) also did Sanford and Son (1972).
Sanford & Son does not play much on TV anymore, so if you havent had the pleasure of seeing it, but are a fan of any of the previously listed shows I highly recommend it.

The sitcom quickly vaulted to the No. 2 spot on the network ratings--right behind creators Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin's previous effort, All in the Family.
The second season brought no changes to the show's basic format--comedian Redd Foxx remained the focus as cantankerous junkman Fred Sanford, with Demond Wilson as his son and perennial foil, Lamont.
