Bud sport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A bud sport is a part of a plant or tree, for example, a leaf, shoot or flower, which due to a genetic mutation clearly differs from the rest of the plant, and which can also be grafted to grow new plants which retain this genetic difference as a new cultivar.
An example of a bud sport is the nectarine, which is thought to have developed from a bud sport from a peach.
Bud sports can also happen to garden plants, where for example a pink flower can appear on a genetically white-flowered plant.

Sports Curmudgeon - Bud Selig = Good Commissioner
That's why I say Bud Selig is a good commissioner — not the greatest of all time in any sport, but also not the bumbling incompetent boob he is usually made out to be.
David Stern presides over the sport that we were told was the boom sport of the 1990s when really it was the sport that Michael Jordan carried through the 1990s.
Maybe it's time to put Bud Selig's time in office in a more global perspective and try to overcome the knee-jerk reaction that he is an ignorant bumpkin whenever he does something.

In botany, a bud is an undeveloped shoot and normally occurs in the axil of a leaf or at the tip of the stem.
(Bud Pass) The buds of many woody plants, especially in temperate or cold climates, are protected by a covering of modified leaves called scales which tightly enclose the more delicate parts of the bud.
The term bud (as in budding) is used by analogy within zoology as well, where it refers to an outgrowth from the body which develops into a new individual.

Bud Selig is probably not the most popular Commissioner of Baseball and not one has ever really been "loved", but what is certain is that Selig has won some wonderful awards over the course of his career:

The recent bombshell discovery that the Brewers are prepping to slash their already third lowest payroll in the majors by upwards of $30 million for 2004, was a gut punch to loyal fans who have been holding out unrealistic (irrational?) hope in the wake of a decade of utter incompetence.
