Baer beat the likes of Walter Cobb and Kingfish Levinsky, and was Heavyweight Champion of the World from June 14, 1934, when he knocked out Primo Carnera, to June 13, 1935.
Baer was an actor in almost twenty movies, including "Africa Screams" with Abbott and Costello, and made several TV guest appearances.
Baer also worked as a disc jockey for a Sacramento radio station and was a wrestler for a while.

Baer claimed that he had been hit, and knocked down, after the bell in the seventh round, and refused to come out for the next round.
Buddy as well as Maxi were known as the "professional good guys" or "the genial giants".
