Actor, comedian and dancer Buddy Ebsen is best known for his role as Jed Clampett on "The Beverly Hillbillies" and detective Barnaby Jones.
Ebsen a well-known dancer from a vaudeville, appeared in several early films, including one with Shirley Temple.
Ebsen went on to various bit parts in movies, but his career really took off when Walt Disney hired him to play George Russel, Davey Crockett’s (Fess Parker), partner.

Initially Buddy studied to become a medic, but left for New York in 1928 to try his luck as a dancer.
In 1962 Buddy Ebsen was approached by Paul Henning to star in the TV series "The Beverly Hillbillies" as the patriarch Jed Clampett, an offer that in his mid-fifties turned him into a TV star.

While Ebsen was in the hospital for two weeks, recovering from a near-fatal allergic reaction to the dust, he was replaced by Jack Haley.
Ebsen also had a notable role as a country veterinarian "Doc Golightly" who was married to "Holly Golightly" (Audrey Hepburn) in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's, which is credited for bringing him to the attention of the producers of Beverly Hillbillies, who cast him in another rural role.
