The album was re-released in 1991 by Roadrunner Records, with the bonus track "Crash Course in Brain Surgery" (originally from Budgie's fourth release, In For the Kill), which had been covered by Metallica on their 1987 EP Garage Days Re-Revisited.
Budgie was the lovable trio from Wales, the stepchild of Black Sabbath and Rush (due both to musical and visual similarities to these two bands), plying their trade at a time when practically no one other than Sabbath was doing so.

Something Budgie did to stand apart from other heavy bands was include a fair number of folky, acoustic ballads on this album, resulting in a bit of a sonic rollercoaster.
Budgie is no exception, and so after I gushed with praise in the previous review about how “honest” and vital their music sounded, they made their first significant stylistic change with 1975's Bandolier.
For this, finally their FINAL album, (good riddance already!) they have taken the brainless 80's hair metal approach of the last two and added really cheesy keyboards in a prominent role to make it even more gut wrenching than you think would be possible.

Budgie were, unquestionably, one of the most influential hard rock outfits in the world, and it was a sad loss to the genre when Shelley dissolved the group in the late eighties.
Their follow-up album, "The Second of May", released in 1971, also on Vertigo and substantially rarer and more valuable than their debut, was also very good, although it would appear that it was felt that it wasn't on a par with the debut.
album of the same name, their 13th, released in 1981.Genesis, as we probably all know by now, were one of the pioneers of the progressive rock scene as we know it today.

A well thought-out album because everything was prepared in advance apart from maybe the lyrics which, and I think Burke would agree with me on this, was one of his failings.

Sadly, the album doesn't quite live up to the heaviness of the opener - and curiously, Budgie also quit that same approach by the time their next album was offered to the public, which still makes their debut their heaviest and least compromised record, if somewhat inconsistent in terms of songwriting.
Budgie's fourth album catches the band in a stage that, I guess, could be called 'indecisive artistic semi-stagnation': the formula of their previous albums has been worn to the bone, yet somehow the members are still talented enough to let some kind of 'second breath' open at the very last minute.
One thing Budgie never really felt uncomfortable without throughout an entire decade of their recorded existence was a fourth member, particularly not a fourth member who'd come on board with the exclusive aim of playing cheesy synthesizers.

The Welsh trio made some impact with their eponymous debut album in 1971 which set the blueprint for subsequent outings but in truth they never really bettered the combination of Shelley's thumping bass and screaming vocals and Tony Bourge's riffola, pinned down by Ray Phillips' solid drumming.
The first two album efforts were produced by Rodger Bain who had worked with Sabbath on their first album and later produced Judas Priest, the band's style had echoes of Sabbath and Zeppelin, with a nod to sixties beat (and Beatle-esque) music.

One of the most underrated metal acts of all time remains the U.K. trio Budgie.
Although they managed to enjoy some chart success back home in England back in the '70s, the group remains little more than a curiosity stateside -- although some of their songs are unwittingly quite familiar to metalheads the world over, due to Metallica's 'appreciation' of the group (Budgie's ""Breadfan"" remains a live staple for Metallica).
If you're new to Budgie, a fine place to start is the ten-track import collection from 1998, The Very Best Of Budgie.
