Press Conference on Alcohol Advertising Reform -- May 16, 1996
Budweiser's trio of syllable frogs, who croak "Bud-Weis-Er" in various patterns until they form the brand's name, provides a good example of a campaign that unscrupulously appeals to children.
The results: the children demonstrated higher recall (73%) of the Budweiser frogs' slogan than of the slogans associated with other television animal characters, including Tony the Tiger (57%), Smokey Bear (43%), and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (39%).
In this study by CSPI and the Children of Alcoholics Foundation, the Budweiser frog ad was the one most frequently mentioned and the only ad mentioned by name, although the study never referred to it.

Each frog croaked a single syllable that together spelled out "Bud-weis-er." The initial frog campaign was criticized because some felt the alcohol ads were targeted at kids.
Budweiser introduced Louie and Frank, the Budweiser Lizards, a pair of green-with-envy speaking lizards who contemplated rubbing out their amphibian competitors.
The 1999 Super Bowl XXXIII continued the frog-hating adventures of Louie and Frank in a series of three ads spots, one of which showed the frogs "literally" giving Louie the lizard a tongue lashing (as payback for the lizards plan to electrocute the frogs).

This lightly-hopped, smooth lager has a long history in the United States, but it was beginning in the 1970s that Budweiser became a true icon of American culture, thanks to a model of commercial development that is the envy of the world.
Today, Budweiser still uses the saying "This Bud's for you," but it most often aims toward a broader, un-gendered public with advertising gimmicks such as the "Bud Bowl" and talking frogs.
Budweiser was also one of the first beers to incorporate requests for responsible-drinking in its advertisements in the late 1980s.

In a similar fashion, the Budweiser frogs croak an amphibious chorus of "bud," "why," and "ser" which, when strung together, produces the brand name.
In addition, the Budweiser frogs appear in settings that visually connect their natural environment - the swamp - with the natural environment of their product: a bar.
Above all, the Budweiser frogs are presented as incongruous but comprehensible representatives of their product.

The Budweiser Ferret stars in the award-winning series of TV and radio ads featuring the Budweiser Frogs and Louie and Frank the lizards created by the San Francisco, Calif., ad agency Goodby, Silverstein and Partners.
The Budweiser Ferret projects a positive, accurate image of ferrets as happy, fun-loving, and social creatures - an image that is lacking in many portrayals of ferrets in the media," said Mary R. Shefferman, Editor of Modern Ferret.
The Budweiser Ferret was selected as "The Ferret of the Century" over some very worthy candidates, including Kodo and Podo from the Beastmaster movies and "Ferret" from the Arnold Schwarzengger movie Kindergarten Cop.

 Survival -- @LA.COM -- January 25, 1998
At the end of Budweiser’s first commercial of the first quarter, hope rose like the smoke from the charred lily pads formerly occupied by the frogs.
So a second commercial showed the slightly singed frogs had not in fact croaked, but were instead still clinging to their insidious "Bud," "Wise," "Er," chant, albeit with considerably less energy than before, due to their brush with death.
Budweiser’s corporate lackeys had a chance to make a statement, to kick it up several notches on the coolness meter, and forever change the rules of the advertising game; namely, don’t kill off your main mascots.

 Budweiser
From 1920 to 1933 Budweiser was non-alcoholic, and Anheuser-Busch had to introduce many non-beer products such as:  ice cream, barley malt syrup, ginger ale, root beer, corn syrup, and refrigerated cabinets.  There was no intense sign of advertising at this time.
Yet, in 1933, following the prohibition, Budweiser began a long-standing campaign with the infamous Clydesdales.
Overall, the “Whassup!?” campaign was a tremendous accomplishment for Budweiser and Anheuser-Busch.  By using innovative advertising techniques, this company now controls nearly half of the brewing industry.  Their target audience is clearly met and understood.  Anheuser-Busch effectively advertises its product on a perceptive level, and Budweiser is purely:  TRUE.
