The north tier of townships was from December 31st, 1837, to July 30, 1840, embraced in the old county of Keokuk as first established.
In compliance with the Constitution the proposition to establish this county was submitted to a vote of the electors residing in the county of Pottawattamie which it was proposed to divide and at this election was rejected so that Belknap County ceased to exist.
It has twenty-four townships containing an area of seven hundred twenty square miles and was named for William H. Crawford who was Secretary of the Treasury from 1817 to 1825 and a candidate for President in 1824.

CAREY is a native of Franklin County, Ohio, and one of the oldest residents of this township.
This enterprising farmer was born September 22, 1839, is a native of this township, and son of William and Elizabeth (Reed) Hunter, natives of Pennsylvania and Delaware respectively.
The father died in 1827; the mother with her children moved to this County in 1828, and died in Crawford Township in 1845, leaving the farm to her son, Charles M., who added to the same and gave his attention to general agriculture and the raising of fine sheep, in which he was quite successful.

This habitat is unique to southeast Michigan and results from a unique combination of sandy soils deposited in glacial lake plains, dunes and beaches, a cooler growing season due to the effects of Lake Huron, a high water table, and possibly the former influence of fire.
The Township is projected to have a population increase greater than the average for the watershed (48%), and the number of housing units is also projected to increase more than the watershed average (68%).
The distinguishing characteristics of this Township are that the main land uses are rural, including agricultural lands that represent 50% of the Township’s land uses within the watershed, and woodlands/ wetlands, that represent 34% of the land uses within the watershed.

Marlette is located in the southwest portion of Sanilac County, which is the Heart of the Michigan thumb.
In 1856, a committee petitioned the county board of supervisors to have a portion of Sanilac County set aside as a township, it was decided to choose the name of a non-resident.

Crawford Township was organized in the county of Crawford in 1825, and became a part of this county in 1845.
It is one of the northern tier of townships of Wyandot, bounded on the north by Seneca County, on the east by Tymochtee Township, on the south by Salem, on the west by Ridge.
The territory comprised in this township was one of the most famous of the early Indian sporting grounds, being the seat of an extensive village of the Delaware Indians, who, under the command of Capt. Pipe, the notorious Delaware chief, executed Col. William Crawford in 1782.

Per the Township Treasurer, CARL LIEPMANN, the Planning Commission meetings are a budgeted item and as long as there is money in the budget, an approval would not be required from the Board of Trustees.
No one was present to represent the case and since the issue had been on the calendar for sixty (60) days, and the case being a “no-show”, the issue was postponed for twelve (12) months.
It was felt that perhaps Flushing Township should look into the matter; DOYLE felt if agenda items were delayed to an extent, there would be such a large backlog of issues that the Planning Commission would not be able to handle the matters.

In the late 1850s, Conrad Kammer built a log home in Casco Township to the south and west of Port Huron.
She and her five man crew were driven ashore near Lakeport, Michigan, and the schooner proceeded to break apart.
