KEARNEY, Neb. — A Buffalo County official is putting local fees collected on passports into an escrow account until the state’s attorney general issues an opinion on where the money should go.
Buffalo County District Court Clerk Sharon Mauler had been placing the passport processing fees into a sort of catchall account, spending the money on miscellaneous expenses — such as employee training, flowers for ill co-workers, annual Christmas parties, coffee and office supplies.
In a Sept. 8 letter to the County Board, Mauler explained that it has been her policy to spend a substantial portion of the fees on office incidentals and activities to build morale.

R. a native of Delaware county, N. Y., was born in 1839, and is the son of Edward H. and Polly Ann (Moffatt) More, prominent and thrifty people of their locality and both active and consistent members or the Methodist Episcopal church.
He was chairman of the county board of supervisors for two years and is now serving his precinct as justice of the peace and his county as representative, having been elected to the latter position in November, 1888, and to the former in November, 1889.

Faced with a steep budget deficit, Erie County Joel Giambra has proposed asking his work force, beginning with non-unionized employees, to start paying for a portion of their health care coverage.
Giambra, Thursday morning, said he wants all county employees - both those covered by a union contract and the approximately 350 non-union "managerial confidential" workers - to start paying as much as 15 percent of their health care costs, beginning Jan. 1.
Having employees pay for a portion of their health care coverage is one of several measures Giambra is considering as a part of four-year fiscal recovery plan he must present to the Erie County Legislature and Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority by Oct. 1.

The Buffalo County Historical Society has unveiled a new program to commemorate those lucky people that have been able to trace their family roots to Buffalo County at least 100 years in the past.
Applicants must prove direct descent and prove that the ancestor settled in Buffalo County prior to the year 1865 in the case of Pioneer Ancestors or over 100 years preceding the date of application in the case of Century Ancestors.
The purpose of the Pioneer/Century Family Certificate Program is to recognize families with Buffalo County roots, encourage people to undertake genealogical research, develop a database of information for researchers and to improve the quality of genealogical research.

By 1915 Buffalo County had spent years maintaining and repairing the long timber pile bridge over the Platte River southeast of Kearney.
The county board of supervisors then hired the Omaha Structural Steel Works to fabricate and build the new Kilgore Bridge.
