Buffalo Springfield was a short-lived yet highly original and influential folk-rock group that served as a springboard for the careers of Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and Jim Messina.
The album was originally released by Atlantic’s subsidiary Atco in mono in October 1966 while a stereo version and different track order came in March 1967.
On his 2000 album Silver and Gold, Young sang of his desire to reform the group, to “see those guys again and give it a shot.” Unfortunately, with the October 2004 passing of Palmer, that reunion is no longer a possibility.

Upon doing some research on the band, I discovered that the version of this album that was released on CD (and is readily avaiable on CD as of July 17, 2004) is NOT the original album.
The original version of the album's first track was Baby Don't Scold Me. This CD reissue of the album (and probably several of the pre-CD reissues) features the band's biggest hit of all, For What It's Worth, in place of that track.
While "Buffalo Springfield" may apparently be lacking in grandeur, however, it's a remarkably consistent and often beautiful folk-rock record.

As most of you know, the actual real album had Baby Don't Scold Me instead of FWIW which was added later when it became a big single hit and when it was added on a later edition, Baby Don't Scold Me was deleted.
Anyhow, listening to these albums...I know that the Buffalo Springfield is known for their live shows, but all three of their albums to me are very strong, very powerful.
Kind Woman, the last song of the last album is in very many ways the very first Poco song.

After breakup, Richie Furay and Jim Messina co-found Poco and Loggins and Messina; Stephen Stills joins David Crosby (ex-Byrds) and Graham Nash (ex-Hollies) to form Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

David Crosby of The Byrds was so impressed upon seeing Buffalo Springfield he wanted to join them.
After the demise of Buffalo Springfield, each would go onto further their careers through solo work and other group work.
I suppose it works as part of the album overall, a respite from all the guitar for a while.

The original three Buffalo Springfield LPs have been re-issued recently with the mono version, and stereo version on a single CD.
The three Buffalo Springfield tracks on this, are the same (or very similiar) as something called English White Elpee on the Stampede album.
