  Buffalo Springfield Summary
Buffalo Springfield unravelled in early 1968: Palmer was busted and deported again in January, and in March, Young, Furay and the latest bassist, Jim Messina, were arrested on a drugs charge with Cream member Eric Clapton.
Buffalo Springfield was a short-lived yet highly original and influential folk-rock group that served as a springboard for the careers of Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and Jim Messina.
Although Buffalo Springfield was formed in early 1966, the group’s genesis might very well be attributed to a chance meeting nearly a year earlier, when Neil Young and Stephen Stills first crossed paths in Fort William, Ontario.

Though they only lasted two years, before their split in May 1968 the Buffalo Springfield — guitarists Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, drummer Dewey Martin and original bassist Bruce Palmer — put together some of the most eclectic and influential music to emerge from Southern California’s ‘60s rock scene.
Despite a debut album hampered by weak production, in early 1967 the Springfield scored a Top 10 hit, “For What It’s Worth,” and within months head writers Stills and Young were locked in a battle for creative supremacy, determined to get it right the next time around.
The result was Buffalo Springfield Again, a collection of songs that fused hard rock, country, traditional folk, jazz, and experimental sound montage.
