  Grand Prix Cars - Bugatti Type 35
Ettore Bugatti was born in Milan on 15 September 1881.
The youngest son of Carlo Bugatti, an artist and furniture designer, he was soon drawn to the mechanical arts and by the age of 19 had in fact designed his own car which won a gold medal at a Milan trade fair in 1901.
Bugatti soon made a name for himself and in 1904 he joined Emille Mathis designing a 4-cylinder Hermes and later became the Chief Engineer of the Deutz Company by the age of 25.

A wealthy farmer and wool merchant Etancelin bought a Bugatti Type 35 in January 1926 and took part in local hillclimb events until the middle of 1927 when he entered the Grand Prix de la Marne and won.
He raced mainly in France, winning four races in 1929 but having a big accident in the French GP in 1930 at St Gaudens when an axle broke.
In 1931 he started the year with a Bugatti but then switched to an Alfa Romeo 8C which he would run for the next couple of years.
