Bugatti, despite limited production and very exclusive pricing, was etched deep into the memory of car enthusiasts all over the world.
Even now, some 50 years after the last Bugatti car left the Molsheim factory, this brand evokes such an alluring image that values of these classic cars are sky high and a large amount of money has been poured into reviving the name for new, modern super sports cars.
In the years before the second World War Bugatti produced several models which were milestones in different areas, like the extremely successful Type 35 racing car or the world's most luxurious and expensive car, the Type 41 or "Royale", to name two extremes.

The Type 50 was the first road-going Bugatti to be powered by the DOHC engine, with the honour of the very first ever going to the 1930 Type 51 Grand Prix racer.
Although the Type 50 was intended solely for road use, Jean Bugatti convinced his father to prepare three examples for the 1931 24 Hours of LeMans race.
Painted in all-fl to show Bugatti’s discontent with the French government's refusal to sponsor the racing effort, the Type 50 racers were all withdrawn after a tire-failure on one of the team cars.

It is rumored that a second chassis numbered 41 100 might already have been under construction at the time of the accident, and merely been given the same chassis number as the damaged car.
The 41 150 Berliner d' Voyage like the 41 100, was never sold and remained in the Bugatti family and was used by Ettore Bugatti himself as his personal car until his death in 1947.

This Bugatti has a 170" chassis and is chassis number 41150; this car is one of six Type 41 Royales built by Ettore Bugatti who had designed the Royale to be “the car of kings.” Each Royale had its own unique body style, and all six still exist and can be accounted for.
Styled by Ettore and built at the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, France, the body is made of thousands of small blocks of wood glued together and worked by hand with woodworking tools to form the contours.
In the photo above, the hood of the 1932 Bugatti Type 50T Profilé is shown in the foreground.

The Type 41 Royals had a wheelbase of 4.3-meters, a length of 6-meters and a 12.7-liter, 8-cylinder engine.
Bugatti was also able to develop an airplane engine used by both the French and American governments.With the money he earned from selling the engines, he was also able to keep his car company alive and pursue his true love, building exquisite driving machines.
Bugatti could not afford to develop further products and in August of 1947 he died of a lung infection.
