A survey was conducted in Tororo, Bugiri and Kapchorwa districts in eastern and northeastern Uganda on farmers' perceptions of constraints in maize production.
Farmers in Tororo and Bugiri consistently ranked stemborers and striga as the major production constraints in maize growing, while those in Kapchorwa ranked stemborers and lack of capital as the most important.
Approximately 35 and 40% of the farmers in Tororo and Bugiri, respectively, identified stemborers as the `caterpillar' that destroys their maize.

FABE was launched in Bugiri district, Uganda in September, 2001.The project is managed by Literacy and Adult Basic Education (LABE) Uganda, an indigenous national level NGO.

The resolution was passed during a ceremony in Uganda's Bugiri district in which the Ugandan officials handed over six boat engines confiscated from illegal fishermen on the Uganda side of Lake Victoria, the biggest lake in Africa.
He said that it is advisable for the Ugandan security personnelto avoid pursuing the illegal fishermen up to the Kenya side of the waters without notifying their counterparts.
Bugiri district vice chairman George Ouma, however, claimed that the majority of illegal fishermen on the Uganda side of the lake are Kenyans.

In 2004, more than 700,000 girls and women of childbearing age were immunized with the TT vaccine in Arua, Kayunga, Luwero, Nebbi, Tororo and Yumbe Districts.
In 2003, approximately 537,000 were reached in Bugiri, Iganga, Jinja, Kamuli and Mayuge.
The immunization campaigns in these districts since 2002 have led to the reduction in reported maternal and neonatal tetanus cases from over 300 to fewer than 50 cases.

Contraband Supermatch cigarettes concealed underneath the chassis of a Fuso truck were on Tuesday impounded in Bugiri by the Special Revenue Protection Services (SRPS) personnel.
The 10 cartons of cigarettes, packed in sacks and tied with ropes underneath an empty truck, were intercepted at around 7:30am between Bugiri town and Naluwerere trading centre on the Tororo-Iganga highway.
The driver of the truck, Abdallah Ivulabe, 29, of Dabani, Busia, and his colleague Willy Ssalongo of Kawempe, Kampala, were arrested and held at Bugiri Police Station.
