Kim Newman's short story "Pitbull Brittan", published in 1991, was a savage parody both of Bulldog Drummond and of the state of England under Margaret Thatcher, and featured the eponymous adventurer's battle against an international conspiracy responsible for the 1984 Miners' Strike.

Bulldog Drummond is a 1929 detective film which tells the story of Captain Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond, a British officer bored with civilian life, who investigates an extortion case for a beautiful girl.
Two previous Bulldog Drummond films had been produced: Bulldog Drummond in 1923 and Bulldog Drummond's Third Round in 1925.
Following the 1929 talkie, a series of Drummond movies was produced, beginning with Temple Tower made in the UK in 1930; see the main article on Bulldog Drummond for a complete list.

Treeline follows up that opening movie on disc one, side one of their 50-movie mystery movie DVD box set with Bulldog Drummond Escapes, a movie in which Bulldog Drummond does escape something at one point, though it's hardly so important an escape that it warrants naming the movie after the act.
Drummond's presence comes much to the exasperation of Colonel Nielson (Guy Standing, who died shortly after this film's completion in 1937), since Drummond seems to spontaneously generate mysteries and mayhem.
The young woman is no other than Phyllis Claverling, who will become Drummond's put-upon fiancé in future films as they develop the running joke that she and Bulldog are on their way to be married when they are diverted by some new mystery that must be solved.

During the kidnapping the spies accidentally encounter Drummond and raise his suspicions which is what gets him involved.

Bulldog Drummond in Africa takes our intrepid adventurer (John Howard, who plays Drummond in just about all of the Bulldog Drummond films) and thorn in the side of the stuffy Colonel Nielson (played this time by H.B. Warner) to, as you may surmise from the title, Africa.
Turns out this was a plot devised by Drummond's beloved fiance (once again played by Heather Angel) to ensure that he can't go out and get involved in some new mysterious adventure that further delays their impending wedding.
Bulldog Drummond in Africa is a small step down from the previous films I watched, but just by a little.
