Bullet in the Head is a 1990 movie by John Woo.
A radical assault on the senses, Bullet in the Head portrays the distressing escapades of several friends cajoled, through a random act of violence, into sacrificing the idyllic innocence of youth to fanaticism and injustice of the Vietnam war.

 Bullet in the Head
Bullet in the Head is your typical John Woo Hong Kong action film, filled with fury, passion, themes and a hail of bullets.
Bullet in the Head isn't one of Woo's best films, but it a solid one nonetheless, with a neat way to present his usual themes.
Even with such minor problems, Bullet in the Head is a good film deserving of wider appreciation.

 Bullet in the Head
Bullet in the Head is a tale of love and betrayal played out against a backdrop of wartime chaos, and while Woo had made other vital and vibrant movies--The Killer, Hard Boiled, and A Better Tomorrow--none were as impassioned as Bullet in the Head.
Comment: 'Bullet in the Head' comes between Woo's two most famed HK flicks, 'The Killer' and 'Hard-Boiled', and while it's not quite as good as those movies, this is an excellent action film, with a fair amount of emotional depth and impact.
Comment: Though not wholly successful, "Bullet in the Head" is at the very least ambitious in it's themes.

 Bullet in the Head (1990)
A few years back "Bullet in the Head" was released on DVD running somewhere in the ballpark of 10 minutes longer than the theatrical print but 10 minutes shorter than the bootleg.
The bootleg print of "Bullet in the Head" (which occasionally makes the rounds at Asian film festivals) runs at about 136 minutes and is the most complete version of the film.
The 136-minute bootleg of "Bullet in the Head" (which this review is based from) is one of John Woo's finest films.

 Bullet In The Head
Bullet in the Head is not a film you'd ever describe as being "entertaining" to watch, and is often a disturbing experience, but one that should not be missed.
However, where Bullet In The Head differs, is the sense that the main characters never have any control over their own destiny, and are forced into making decisions which have dreadful repercussions on themselves, and others.
As you may have noticed from some of my previous reviews, I tend to be drawn to films which have a certain emotional depth to them, so the opportunity to pick up Bullet In The Head, on DVD, couldn't be missed.

 portland imc - 2004.11.18 - Prophecy Nov 18 : The bullet in Margaret's head - a call to Jihad
It would be more consistent if instead of putting a bullet into Margaret's head, and then convincing sheep that the Iraq war is a terror war, there was to be a bullet put into the head of 'privatization' and 'neo-liberalism' in Iraq, euphemisms for sacking and then looting and plundering.
Could it be the case that such trusting, good sheep, having seen bullets whizzing past their heads, should decide to do such things as 'demand accountability' from that gun toting wolf.
Now what we see when we look out over the world is that there are these good sheep, trusting sheep, who just had a bullet fired over their heads.

 Bullet in the Head
Bullet in the Head is ostensibly about fish out of water--its main trio of characters are small time hoods who flee to Vietnam to become war profiteers--but that isn't what Woo is really interested in here.
What Bullet in the Head is really about is the contrast between make-believe violence and the real McCoy.
It is dazzlingly well staged, as one would expect from one of the world's premier action directors, but any hint of stylization vanishes once Woo reinacts the famous photograph from which the film takes its name.

Opus - Bullet In The Head
So one night, I rent "Bullet In The Head," one of the classic Woo films I haven't seen.
In many ways, "The Killer" and "Hard Boiled" are two of the greatest action movies ever made, because they transcended the violence of the genre with very intimate looks at the characters, often on opposite sides of the law, engaged in deep philosophical dialog amidst a flurry of bullets.
Mention those two words, and immediately several things come to mind: heroic bloodshed; calm, cool hitmen with a.45 in each hand; extremely emotional displays of honor and loyalty; quasi-existential dialog intercut with scenes of violence that are almost beautiful in their choreography and brutality.
