Bulletproof glass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bulletproof glass is glass that is capable of stopping all manner of bullets fired at it.
Advances in bullet resistant glass have led to the invention of one-way bulletproof glass, such as used in some bank armored cars.
One-way bulletproof glass is usually made up of two layers, a brittle layer on the outside and a flexible one on the inside.

Howstuffworks "How does "bulletproof" glass work?"
Bullet resistant glass is designed to withstand one or several rounds of bullets depending on the thickness of the glass and the weapon being fired at it.
The ability of bullet-resistant glass to stop a bullet is determined by the thickness of the glass.
A rifle bullet will collide with the glass with a lot more force than a bullet from a handgun, so a thicker piece of bullet-resistant glass would be needed to stop a rifle bullet as opposed to a handgun bullet.

Glasses are uniform amorphous solid materials, usually produced when a suitably viscous molten material cools very rapidly, thereby not giving enough time for a regular crystal lattice to form.
Glass can be made extremely pure so that hundreds of kilometers of glass are transparent at infrared wavelengths in fibre optic cables.
Glass is produced in the standard metric sizes of 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 19mm and 22mm.

The resin glass is formed by adhering a both-sided tape of a predetermined thickness to edges of the glass sheets to prevent leakage of the liquid resin and injecting the liquid resin into an empty space between the glass sheets.
When the second glass sheet (14) passes through between the rollers (68, 73) and reaches the bonding position (75), the upper surface of the second glass sheet (14) is in attachment to the underside of the intermediate material (16).
Furthermore, since the ratio of stiffness to weight of the laminated glass of the invention is several times larger than that of the conventional bulletproof glass, the weight of the automobile bulletproof glass, which is the most critical point of the conventional automobile bulletproof glass, can be dramatically reduced.

In the Washington City Paper, Dave Jamieson writes that while Lucas is considered "'the pioneer' in liquor- and convenience-store disarmament," many stores in DC have kept their protective glass in place.
Much of the security glass in DC stores dates back to the crack epidemic of the '80s and early '90s, and before that, the 1968 riots.
As Jamieson explains, the glass is a "valuable store fixture," and for shopkeepers with short-leases, it doesn't make financial sense to simply get rid of it.

 Personal Protection - Bulletproof Items
One of the first recorded instances of the use of primitive bulletproof vests or soft body armor was by the medieval Japanese, who used armor manufactured from silk.
Although the first U.S. law enforcement officer to lose his life in the line of duty, U.S. Marshall Robert Forsyth, was shot and killed in 1794, it was not until the late 19th century that the first use of soft body armor in the United States was recorded.
But while these bulletproof vests garments were shown to be effective against low-velocity bullets (traveling at 400 feet per second (ft/s) or less), they did not offer protection against the new generation of handgun ammunition being introduced at that time that traveled at velocities of more than 600 feet per second.
