On the morning of February 14th, (Valentine's Day), April Himes (Clinton) was told by her Middle School; Go to school (where she had been teased, harassed and taunted by classmates) or appear before a truancy board and maybe go to "juvie" jail.
April's parents had found her counseling but without the harassment ending at her school there was no resolving her basic problem, "bully peers".
School officials had been told what was going on with April and why she was missing so much school but they were of no help.

Thirroul, known as Robbinsville until 1895, is situated on the Illawarra South Coast between Austinmer and Bulli approximately 13 kilometres north of Wollongong.
Early settlement began on the hilly area of the village as the lower beachside area was swampy and susceptible to flooding when high tides combined with a period of heavy rain.
The flora in the area belongs to the subtropical/warm temperate rainforest group, termed Mixed Notophyll Vine — Fern Forest, and occurs on the level sections of the escarpment where the soils have developed an accumulation of moisture and nutrients.

In the first meeting with their mentor students are encouraged to complete an agreement about smoking at school and at school activities.
Subsequent offences are treated with increasing punishment such as parental interviews, detention accompanied by the completion of anti-smoking sheets and possible suspension for failure to adhere to school policy.

Now, University of Wollongong law students in conjunction with the Illawarra Youth Justice Network, are addressing the problem by delivering interactive workshops to public high school students at nine Illawarra schools to help them understand their legal obligations.
The participating schools are Bulli High, Corrimal High, Dapto High, Figtree High, Kanahooka High, Keira Technology High, Smiths Hill High, Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts and Woonona High.
