		Whenever a case arises (often one that is stumping his father), Encyclopedia Brown swings into action, assisted in his investigations by his friend (and "muscle") Sally Kimball.
		The recurring "villain" is neighbourhood bully Bugs Meany.
		Books featuring this character are subdivided into a number of (possibly interlinked) short stories, each of which presents a mystery.

	The Century and the Millennium
		Unfortunately for the Ordinalists, everyone celebrates the New Year at the stroke of Midnight, not at 12:01, and, much worse, the meaning of 00:00 hours January 1, 2000 was hightened by anxieties and fears about the damage that could be done by the Y2K computer bug.
		It was thought that various essential public services could stop because older computers might lock up when their internal clocks showed the year as 00 and this was interpreted as 1900 rather than 2000.
		Few expected the Russians to upgrade their computers in time to be free of any possible Y2K bugs.

	The Comic Treadmill
		But my second-guessing aside, Foggy was never fated to be a headliner and thus, we’re left with an issue featuring the origin of the Beetle, which was so lackluster I forget it 5 minutes after reading it, more of Daredevil battling the residents of Beetletown and Foggy’s pugilistic triumph.
		There are some nifty back-up features in the Annual, including a two-page spread trying to explain the whole Mike Murdock thing to readers (a sequence which Bully at Comics Oughta Be Fun recently had sport with).
		I’m guessing that when Stan tried to explain what he had done, it made his head hurt so much he decided to put the kibosh on the Mike Murdock concept, which he would in six issues.
