The Watch Guy: Bulova Serial Number Table & Manufacture Dates   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
There are many Bulova watches with serial numbers.  However, these numbers are for identification purposes only.  There are no number tables that I am aware of to cross reference the date of manufacture with the serial number.  The serical numbers were simply for identification purposes only.
In the late 40's Bulova began using a series of codes to denote the manufacture date.
Interestingly, the code system is well documented from L and on...however, I have recently come across some 1940's watches with the code "A8" and "A9".  These watches were also engraved with the owners name and the date- 1948 and 1949 respectively.

Bulova Watches - The Wristwatch Revolution
Bulova Corporation was one such rare company that not only predicted the changes in the watch industry but worked hard to pioneer innovative technology to bring this revolution about.
Bulova had already spearheaded such techniques as the standardization of mechanical watch parts in the 20s and the mass production of jeweled time pieces at everyday prices, but few were ready for what was to be unveiled in 1960.
It took William Bennett (Bulova's chief engineer in New York) and Egbert Van Haaften another four years before a commercially viable product emerged but when it was introduced into the market in 1960, it was the most accurate wristwatch of it's time.
