The Government placed responsibility on the MILF for mass killings on July 16, 2000, in Bumbaran, Lanao del Sur Province; however after subsequent investigation, the Commission on Human Rights stated that the perpetrators could have been non-MILF separatists posing as MILF members, or may have been renegade former members of the MNLF.
The camp was organized by school teachers in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte.

MALAYBALAY CITY -- Anytime now, logs from Bumbaran, Lanao del Sur may pass through Bukidnon, but the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office here is still in a dilemma on what to do should the planned transport push through, PENR Officer Agustilo Obsioma said.
One of their moves is to put up checkpoints or barricades along the highway to block the passage of logging trucks.
They have declared their opposition to logging in Lanao del Sur, saying it is being done in a critical watershed.

This is a clear violation to the terms and conditions of its permit.
DENR-10 refuses to exercise jurisdiction over these areas in Cagayan de Oro because it is claimed to be part of Lanao del Sur (ARMM) by virtue of Pres'l Decree 1548 (Attached as Annex B1-B2), but this has been amended by PD 1647 (attached as Annex C).
