In reading Dr. Bump's article on "Radical Changes in Class Discussion Using Networked Computers," I was very interested in, and at times surprised by, the results.
I think, as the Internet is further propagated, there will be more studies pointing to positive benefits, as people find more uses, gain more comfort with the technology, and feel less overwhelmed.
Also, I thought the article that dealt with the study of depression and loneliness as a result of Internet use, was particularly astute in pointing out the limitations of the research method.

The Redwood City company, which says its connection to the Internet via cable TV lines is 100 times faster than conventional modems, disclosed in a federal filing that its network has had trouble accommodating large numbers of users at the same time.
The company has placed a 10- minute limit on the TV-quality video its customers can download off the Internet and says it is looking for ways to increase the amount of bandwidth, or capacity, it can provide customers.
The company says some of the capacity problems will be resolved when cable providers upgrade their networks and a new breed of cable modem known as DOCSIS becomes commercially available.
