US Navy BuNo 99853 JD a veteran of ten years devoted Antarctic service, having first reached McMurdo on October 1 1957,slipped from her sling falling 25 feet to the quay and was badly damaged in the mishap.
BuNo 14318 was also named "The Penguin Express", its commander in Antarctic LCr.Sid Wegert, who served with the "Puckered Penguins" from 1966 to 68 told me, "We had to be careful landing with skis because the nose ski in particular, was vulnerable to damage if stress on it was excessive.

 Martin PBM Mariner Aircraft wreck
BuNo 59172 was wrecked on 6 May 1949 while being ferried across Lake Washington from Naval Air Station, Seattle to the Boeing seaplane ramp at Renton, Washington, where it was intended to be placed in storage.
Today, the wreck of BuNo 59172 remains where the aircraft came to rest in 1949, in the southernmost end of Lake Washington, in the vicinity of Renton, just off the old seaplane ramp at the Boeing plant.
Today, custody of BuNo 59172 is assigned to the National Museum of Naval Aviation, and the flying boat continues to serve the Navy in several ways.

Buno is a Tagalog word meaning wrestling it is an empty hand fighting system developed by the indigenous people of the Philippines Islands.
There are literally hundreds of styles of Buno practiced throughout the Philippines.However, the Harimaw Buno formerly Harimaw Lumad (King Tiger Wrestling) style was particular to the Mangyans, of Mindoro, Island and Aetas Tribes in Infanta, Quezon in Luzon Philippines.
Harimaw Buno was the Preferred name by Gat Puno Abon "Garimot" Baet the founder and Grandmaster of the Harimaw Buno Federation.

This picture, of the S-2F 4118 11 Hikotai (buno: 136737), was taken at Hamamatsu on 14 November 1982.
The 4158 (Buno 144718) belonged to 204 Sq when this picture was taken on 26 June 1969.
This S-2F is preserved at the large JMSDF museum at Kanoya naval air station in the south of the southern island Kyushu.

When BUNO 141020 was assigned there was a contest within the CINC’s office to come up with a name for the plane.
The current artwork is displayed on both sides of the nose of the aircraft and does not have the dates or “40 years of service” logo.
The Navy P-3 Buno# 150496 was retired on the 13 April 2004 and departed NASSIG on the 10 May 2004.

There were no markings to identify the squadron, but the presentation of the last three of the BuNo on the fin tip, suggests VP-10.
A Lockheed P-3C, BuNo 157313 recently repainted in the new glossy grey overall colors took off for a training flight on July 3, 2002.
P-3C, BuNo 162778 is doing landing execises on runway 02 at NAS Keflavik on April 16, 2000.

 AJ accidents and incidents--unknown BuNos
If I can get at least the BuNos I will then be able to move the entries from here to the file that I have of "All the Savages and their fates".
Analysis of witness statements and movie and still photos failed to positively identify the cause of the accident, but the most likely cause was determined to have been an inadvertent engagement of the flight control gust lock.
The BuNo and the fact that the plane was assigned to NATC was information obtained 30 Septermber 2003.

The F-11 you photographed is BuNo 141796 and, as you will see, was not a real Blue Angel.
Between July 1971 - 1987 F-11A BuNo 141821 was on loan to our museum but was returned to AMARC due to extremely poor condition.
At some point, F-11A BuNo 141853 was at our museum; I cannot discern the dates though because the file is incomplete.

On 04/08/1950 BUNO 59645 and its ten-man crew were lost in the western Baltic sea, apparently after being attacked by soviet aircraft approx 80NM southeast of got land island, close to Liepaja Latvia.
AMHAN Terrance J. Harrison was killed after he tried to repair a lower door pressurization seal on EA-3B BUNO 146454 Ranger 16, during the pressurization operation, the lower door blew open impacting his head and knocking him into the nose strut.
I can’t verify specifically the BUNO of 142247 for that particular aircraft.

SBD-2 (BuNo 2106) is the only known surviving aircraft from the Battle of Midway, SBD-3 (BuNo 06508) flew from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal, and a pair of SBD-3s (BuNos 06624 and 06626) flew from USS Ranger (CV-4) during Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa.

serial number, the BuNo of THIS gallant lady is forever etched in my brain housing group.
Her last mission was on January 19th, 1968 and culminated in an emergency extraction under heavy and intense fire of a Recon team set in as the first of many missions that morning.
I found a good site for finding all BuNos for All aircraft in the US inventory.
