The people of Burao seem to have learnt from their past predicament: the city has been now enjoying almost nine years of fairly uninterrupted peace; there is also a strong feeling of communal association and a sense of determination on the local population’s part to rebuild the city.
As a result, the city of Burao is now going through an age of Renaissance in her own right, as it is enjoying a sustained period of an unprecedented expansion in its history, in terms of spatial development and intellectual capacity building.
The Mayor of Burao at the time was keen on the idea, as he was fully committed to facilitate the establishment of the new University of Hargeisa campus at Burao.

As part of worldwide fund raising drive to secure US$ 212,000 needed for the construction of a purpose-built campus for the nascent university, the Campaign representative Muuse Idigaa said that the plan was to obtain the targeted funds by the end of 2004, start the construction by January and aim for completion by May 2005.
The Mayor of Burao at the time was keen on the idea and showed commitment to facilitate their establishment.
Muuse Idigaa, however, said that Burao University had benefited from the experience of the other two universities before it, Amoud and Hargeisa universities, and was working to avoid all the pitfalls.

After more than 4 hours of travelling, we reached Burao at around 8:45 and was awfully hungry,food is not readily available in local restaurants they say, so since Citi Plaza was newly built and its a hotel (which we assume has food anytime of the day) we took the risk and went straight.
Burao is known for a few things, one is the militant character of its people, this is where the best and bravest fighters of Somali National Movenment (the liberation army that toppled the Siad Barre dictatorship) come from.

The SNM administration persuaded the leaders of all the north's major clans to attend a conference at Burao in April 1991, at which the region's political future was debated.
Delegates to the Burao conference passed several resolutions pertaining to the future independence of the north from the south and created a standing committee, carefully balanced in terms of clan representation, to draft a constitution.

As previously mentioned, Burao Vocational Training Center consists four classrooms and office, two of the four classrooms are exclusively used for typing and computer studies, the other two are used for the rest of the subjects taught in the center.
On the other hand, the demand of enrollment is very high, so it is obvious that these four classrooms are not enough for the students who want to apply the center.
It also became clear, since the town is big and constantly growing, that it is difficult for many of Burao residents to reach the existing center.

"The genital cut on Somali girls between the age of seven and 10 is a dangerous exercise that has brought misery to the lives of Somali women, because beside the health risk, the mutilation traumatizes the young, compelled to follow the painful tradition," gynaecologist Hodan Farah told AFP at the general hospital in Burao.
Burao is located 280 kilometres (175 miles) east of Hargeisa, capital of the breakaway republic of Somaliland which declared independence from the rest of Somalia in May 1991, five months after dictator Mohamed Siad Barre was toppled.
