Burger Highlife was born when Ghanaian musicians in Germany created a crossover music style from highlife, disco and funk music and is a result of the enrichment and cultural cross fertilization that occurs during cultural encounters.
Burger Highlife had an instant appeal in Ghana and in the Ghanaian and other communities worldwide, creating a subculture with its own fashion and way of life.
Some artistes of highlife, otherwise known as burger highlife, such as Charles Amoah, Mc God, Pat Thomas and the famous keyboardist, Bob Fiscian, were there to render a splendid performance by way of saying thanks to all participants.

Among the highlights of the University of Colorado at Boulder’s 125th Anniversary Celebration was a performance of Ghanaian “highlife” music by the CU African Ensemble at the Campus Celebration, April 20.
Highlife is part of African popular music (Afro-Pop), with roots in brass band music, palm wine guitar, and traditional songs.
The term highlife came into use along the Ghanaian coastal towns in the 1920s as a description of the British ballroom dancing, where colonial officials dressed up in coattails and danced to the music of regimental bands.

Entertainment of Thursday, 10 July 2003
LAST weekend’s Progressive Highlife concert at the National Theatre featuring Burger Highlife King George Darko, the adventurous Rex Omar and hiplife giants Buk Bak, had all the trappings of a good show except one thing — an audience.
Assisted by four vocalists and a group of vigorous dancers, George Darko poured out the jazzy instrumental form of burger highlife music in upbeat sounds which brought into the auditorium, that ‘oldies-music’ kind of feeling.
At the end of the show, it was quite clear that the different forms in which highlife music was presented pointed to the fact that highlife — far away from being a dying form of music in Ghana — would continue to evolve into many different styles.

Presently, Ghana has about three popular types of dance music forms, namely Traditional highlife which is credited to Daniel Amponsah alias Agya Koo Nimo, Hiplife which is the brainchild of Reginald Osei, also known as Reggie Rockstone and “Burgher” or contemporary highlife, which is George Darko’s baby.
In an exclusive interview with The Mirror at his West Legon residence in Accra the Burgher highlife man with his guitar firmly strapped to his body, led the paper through the corridors of his life.
He said his decision to make highlife more danceable stemmed from the fact that any time he visited a club in Germany and songs from East Africa were played people jumped onto the floor but sat down immediately Ghanaian rhythms filled the air.
