Burgon Society - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Burgon Society was founded in 2000 for the study and promotion of academical dress, to preserve its history, and to advise film and television companies and interested others in the correct usage of academical dress.
The society is named after the man known as Dean Burgon, John William Burgon (1813-1888).
Membership of The Burgon Society is open to all who support the aims of the society.

Burgon’s scholarship, research, and argumentation are infinitely more palatable than that of the leaders of his organizational namesake.
Burgon argues at length than a denial of the double sense of Scripture is a denial of its inspiration, but just as importantly, he argues that the presence of the double sense is indicative of the Holy Spirit’s authorship.
Burgon then proposes to solve the difficulty with the supposition, first suggested by a Dr. Townson, that Mark followed the Jewish method of timekeeping, which would place the crucifixion at 9 a.m., whereas John followed the method of reckoning prevalent in Ephesus, which would have Jesus before Pilate at around 6 a.m.

The Textual Position of Dean John William Burgon
Edward Miller, writing in the Introduction (Page 5) of Dean Burgon's posthumously published "The Traditional Text of the Holy Gospels" (Published by the Dean Burgon Society, 900 Park Avenue, Collingswood, New Jersey 08108) states "First, be it understood, that we do not advocate perfection in the Textus Receptus.
Burgon's suggestion of 150 changes in the Gospel of Matthew may have included changes in the chapter and verse structure which was added to the Greek New Testament by Stephens.
Today, the Dean Burgon Society believes the Textus Receptus, as published by the Trinitarian Bible Society, which is Scrivener's Greek Text of 1894, is the embodiment of the Providentially preserved word of God in Greek.

Burgon doesn't fit the popular mold; his arguments are powerful, so he is simply ignored; or if not ignored, his well-reasoned observations are subtly replaced with "straw men" which are then easily dismissed as unworthy of the modern critic's time.
I did mention the fact that the editors of the United Bible Societies Greek text are apostates--Modernists and Roman Catholic prelates--and I quoted from the Preface to the American Bible Society's RSV which states that the KJV and the Greek text upon which it is based are gravely defected.
The Trinitarian Bible Society has the remarkable testimony that for more than 150 years it has held fast to its founding principles, one of which is that it will publish and distribute only the Textus Receptus and faithful translations based on it.

Dean Burgon wrote: "Singular to relate, the first, second, fourth and fifth of these codices (B, Aleph, C, D) but especially B and Aleph have within the last twenty years established a tyrannical ascendency over the imagination of the Critics which can only be fitly spoken of as a blind superstition.
Dean Burgon wrote: "It has been the ruin of the present undertaking--as far as the Sacred Text is concerned--that the majority of the Revisionist body have been misled throughout by the oracular decrees and impetuous advocacy of Drs.
Dean Burgon wrote: "`Strange,' we venture to exclaim, (addressing the living representatives of the school of Lachmann, and Tregelles, and Tischendorf):--`Strange, that you should not perceive that you are the dupes of a fallacy which is even transparent.

It is further interesting that Burgon said the "spurious clause" was "easily demonstrable," which proves that Burgon could "call for revision" in the TR without going through all the steps of revision he set up.
And, Burgon said these numerous "occasions" for pointing out "correction" in the "Textus Receptus" were "in not a few particulars." In direct opposition to this is the "President" of the "Dean Burgon Society," who claims that Burgon merely said the TR could be "fine-tuned in a few places."
In other words, Burgon's view of the TR as "the most convenient standard of comparison" was no different than that of other critics who adopted the TR for collating manuscripts.

The Synthetic Society was devoted, not to mere discussion of religious and philosophical questions, but to "contribute towards a working philosophy of religious belief." The progenitor of the Society for Psychical Research and the Fabian Society was the Cambridge University Ghost Society, founded in 1851.

John William Burgon (1813-1888) was one of the greatest textual scholars of the 19th century.
In the latter half of the 1800s, Burgon defended the Bible as the infallible and inerrant Word of God, inspired to its very jots and tittles, and he fought a manly battle against the encroachment of theological modernism.
Burgon observed: "At the root of the whole mischief of these last days lies disbelief in the Bible as the Word of God.

If the Bible is not verbally, plenarily, and inerrantly inspired, and if inspiration does not extend to all matters of which the Bible speaks, it does not matter if the Bible has been preserved or how it has been presserved.

Westcott and Hort were also pioneers of Spiritualist inquiry during The Nineteenth Century Occult Revival, having founded the Cambridge Ghost Society, which was the parent organization of the present day Society for Psychical Research.
Pursuing their self-serving revisionist hypothesis, Westcott and Hort used the Codex Vaticanus (B) and the Codex Sinaiticus (Aleph) manuscripts as the basis for their New Testament Greek Text, which in turn was the basis for the 1881 text adopted by the ERV revisers.
Dean John Burgon, the brilliant textual scholar and Anglican clergyman who led the opposition to the English revision, described for his English readers the corrupt character of the manuscripts primarily used by Westcott and Hort -- not to revise the Textus Receptus -- but to create an altogether new Greek Text.

First of all, the F.B.S. hood is 'earned' through the submission of a research project of considerable depth, followed by a talk on the subject in front of a learned audience.
