You can either drive as we did, but it's a real slog, or you can get there by train via Ayuthaya or just fly there via Bangkok and be done with it.

Buriram seems to be more conveniently reached by train than by bus.
I know many people like us go to Buriram from Pattaya by Taxi..It is a very large town, yes many hour's drive, but you will see the Country side..
If there is no direct bus, and we will have to travel to Bkk anyway to go there, I guess the plane is a good option, especially as my friend has never flown and it only costs 1300 THB per person one way...

The author had invited the director of Prasat Phanom Rung Historical Park to observe the sunset through all 15 doorways and guaranteed her that the sun would set straight the next day, the 7th of March.
She was so impressed that she invited the governor of Buriram province and other local dignitaries to attend the solar event the following day.
On the 7th the horizon was cloudy and it seemed like that the sun would not be visible, but a few minutes before sunset the sun became visible.

Depending on where you are going the bus trip takes about 6 hours, and you may have to change busses in Khorat.
I think you can still fly to Buriram, and the airport in Surin might be open now, but I do not know which airlines fly in there.
If you are going to the southern portion of Buriram province, busses are frequent, but you must know where you want to get off.
