It covers the 75 provinces (changwat) and the city of Bangkok, which is both a province and a municipality.
A special non-numeric code is used for the city of Pattaya, which is in the province Chonburi, but other than all other communes it is administrated by a unique City Council.
The numbers used are the same as the postal code for the province, except in the number range 11-19, where one have to subtract 1 to get the postal code from the ISO code.

Buriram, originally an early Khmer settlement and now principal town of Buriram province, lies on the southern edge of the Khorat plateau 265 km (165 mi.) from Bangkok.
This part of the country on the periphery of the north-eastern region - Thailand's "poorhouse" - is characterized by sparse vegetation, merging into mixed forest as the uplands are approached.
Exactly why the Khmer built several temple complexes at Buriram remains a mystery; perhaps the reason was simply geographical, the area lying on the direct route between Angkor Wat and Phimai.

Dr WICHAI has revealed that the current figure of dengue haemorrhagic fever patients in BURIRAM Province has reached a total of 150 cases, with most of them found in the Muang District.
Nevertheless, the situation is not improving, since this is the rainy season, which sees an increase in the number of mosquito breeding areas.

In the province of Surin and it's neighbour Buriram, we now have around 3,000 falangs either living permament, or have a house and use it certain times of the year.
The thing that struck me last time in Buriram province were the number of farangs who'd paired up with a Thai girl and built a house for her/them in the village.
Buriram and Surin are definitely good places to visit, although I couldn't see myself living there.

The Thai cabinet kicked off its roving meeting in Thailand's northeastern province of Buriram, with development projects for the province and other provinces in the region, as well as national energy saving strategies to be top of the agenda.
The cabinet will reportedly consider and approve a budget of nearly Bt5.3 billion for development projects in Buriram--more than Bt3.2 billion will be used to support the development of local infrastructure and transport networks, while the rest is for the improvement and development of local water resources.
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra told journalists before the cabinet meeting that the government would also work out on measures to address the poverty problem in the province, noting that the per capita annual income of Buriram's residents is now only 25 percent of the country's total annual per capital income.
