Media Err on Jerusalem and Israel
Mohammed Burkhan is quoted saying, "I hate the Israeli government because it took my house." As with many such anecdotal stories, however, this one doesn't stand the test of fact-checking.
Burkhan's claims were debunked nineteen years ago with evidence revealed in a case before Israel's High Court.
During the proceedings, a letter by Burkhan was uncovered which contradicted his claims both that he owned the land in question, and that for many years he had owned and lived in the house situated there.

 Burkhanism Information
Burkhanism or Ak Jang is a new religious movement that flourished among the indigenous people of Russia's Gorno Altai region (okrug) between 1904 and the 1930s.
One of the Burkhanist deities is Ak-Burkhan, or "White Burkhan." Although "Burkhan" means "Buddha" in several Turkic and Mongolic languages, Burkhanism was not Buddhist, and Ak-Burkhan was not a Buddha.
This rejection is closely related to Burkhanism's rejection of Altaian shamanism, and corresponding elevation of oral epic singers (iarlikchi).

Burkhanism was born in May 1904, when an Altaian shepherd by the name of Chet-Chelpan revealed that there had appeared before him a man dressed in white upon a white horse.
Information about Burkhanism has to be gleaned from the papers of Russian ethnographers who visited Altai and the diaries of Russian missionaries and later commissars who came to extirpate the new faith.
Interest in Burkhanism was revived by Altaian students who had gone for their higher education to Moscow or Leningrad and there met Russian intellectuals belonging to the religious movement established by the Silver Age occult philosopher Nikolai Rerikh (1874-1947).

Burkhanism is the usual English-language scholarly name for a new religious movement that flourished among the indigenous people of Russia's Ngorno-Altai region (okrug) between 1904 and the Stalinist era.
Czarist Russia was suspicious of the movement's potential to stir up native unrest and perhaps involve outside powers; the Soviet authorities ultimately suppressed it for fear of its potential to unify Siberian Turkic speakers under a common nationalism.
