  Burleson County
Burleson County, in east central Texas, lies approximately forty-five miles east of the state capital at Austin and is bordered by Milam County on the north, on the east by Robertson and Brazos counties, on the south by Washington County, and on the west by Lee County.
Residents of Burleson County participated enthusiastically in the two world wars and contributed their sons unreservedly to both, but the county was not as directly affected by these conflicts as were many other Texas counties.
A Burleson County Chapter of the American Red Cross, with branches in a dozen communities and a membership of more than 3,900, was formed in July 1917 and worked diligently to provide relief and various social services to military personnel and their families.

Edward Burleson, soldier and statesman, son of Capt. James and Elizabeth (Shipman) Burleson, was born at Buncombe County, North Carolina, on December 15, 1798.
On October 20, 1817, Burleson was appointed a captain of militia in Howard County, Missouri; he was commissioned colonel on June 13, 1821, in Saline County, and was colonel of militia from 1823 to 1830 in Hardeman County, Tennessee.
On October 17, 1839, Burleson was in command of the ceremonies establishing Austin as the capital of the Republic of Texas.

Burleson is on Interstate Highway 35W, U.S. Highway 81, State Highway 174, and Farm roads 731 and 3391, fourteen miles south of Fort Worth in northern Johnson and southern Tarrant counties.
Burleson was a mile south of an earlier community, Brushy Mound, which was bypassed by the railroad.
In 1990 the population of Burleson was 16,113.
