In 1927, the Burlington was one of the first to utilize Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) and by the end of 1957 had equipped 1,500 miles of its right-of-way for this advanced type of signaling.

 Burlington before Route 128
Andy Crawford became owner in the 1940s, and he and his family continued to operate the farm even after Route 128 cut his property in half, forcing them to make a one and a half mile drive down Newbridge Street to get to the other half of the farm.
Route 128 would eventually cut across the farm (and that crop of hot peppers on the right) and Lowell Street (which runs horizontally across the middle of the picture.)
In this photo, taken in the mid-1940s, Andrew Crawford is spreading mechanical, or powdered, fertilizer between the furrows of his father’s field.

New Jersey Future In Transportation - Case Studies - Route 130
The Route 130 Corridor in Burlington County has evolved along the same pattern as many arterial roadways across the state: over the past few decades, regional strip commercial development gradually deteriorated or was abandoned as new roadways drew commercial and residential development to outlying regions.
Among the conclusions drawn from the public participation efforts were the need to promote economic development, create visual cohesion along the corridor, and develop and apply appropriate street typologies that would avoid the monotonous strip commercial look and feel of the corridor.
By varying the number of lanes and the treatment of the center medians and by applying principals of context sensitive design, the Route 130 corridor was broken into distinct areas of individual character while maintaining the integrity of the overall vision.
