Burlington was seeking $7 million from UMTA for a bus loop linking downtown shopping, waterfront‑ and entertainment districts with the regional bus system, $3 million from Housing and Urban Development for development around the mall area, $2 million from the Heritage Conservation and Recreation.
Involvement of the transit authority was among the most important factors since UMTA was currently working with the authority, and avenues of funding for the Marketplace were opened by the inclusion of a transit component in the plans.

On August 4, 1929, shortly before this photograph was taken, the last Burlington streetcar rolled down the tracks to the intersection of St. Paul and Main streets.
Draped in fl cloth and drenched in gasoline, the car was set on fire and allowed to burn in a public pyre to mark the death of the city’s light rail transit.
Soon after firefighters hosed down the blaze and the charred carcass was hauled away by tow truck, shiny Rapid Transit Co. buses rolled down church street and surrounded three sides of City Hall Park in a celebration of motorized solidarity.[2] Bus service began that very afternoon.

Access to public transit in Burlington from the GO train station is horrible (outside of rush hour); you will have to take a cab back to your hotel from the GO station.
Burlington isn't that touristy (not like Niagara) and finding places that take USD won't be a problem per se, but it might be a bit of a hassle, so it just might be easier to get some bucks in CAD for tips and coffee shops and use your credit card for everything else.
