Topic: Burmeso language

East Bird's Head-Sentani languages - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The East Bird's Head-Sentani languages form a family of Papuan languages proposed by Malcolm Ross which combines the East Bird's Head and Sentani families along with the Burmeso and Tause language isolates.
The East Bird's Head-Sentani languages, together with the West Papuan languages and the Yawa isolate, form part of a tentative proposal for an Extended West Papuan family.
Clouse (1997) classified Tause as a Lakes Plain language, but its pronouns are not a good match.

 Language Isolates
Language isolates are languages that have no known historical or linguistic relationship to any other languages.
In some cases, languages are classified as isolates because we know so little about them that we are unable to establish a family relationship.
In other cases, the languages are well known and well described, but a family relationship cannot be determined, e.g., Korean and Basque.

Besides the Austronesian languages, there are some 800 languages divided into perhaps sixty small language families, which are not obviously related to each other or to anything else, plus a large number of language isolates.
Several languages of Flores and nearby islands, and especially the language of Savu Island (also called Savu) are usually thought to be Austronesian, but are reported to have large numbers of non-Austronesian words in their basic vocabulary.
However, Ross argues that Papuan languages have closed-class pronoun systems, which are resistant to borrowing, and in any case that the massive number of languages with similar pronouns in a family like Trans-New Guinea preclude borrowing as an explanation.

Lower Mamberamo - The Warembori   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
The Warembori language (locally: Waremboivoro) is spoken by the inhabitants of three villages along the northern coast of Irian Jaya, at and to the west of the mouth of the Mamberamo river, split between the districts (kabupaten) of Yapen-Waropen and Jayapura.
The three villages that are home to the Warembori language are (proceeding from east to west) Warembori, Tamakuri and Bonoi; all have approximately 200-300 inhabitants, and are fairly homogenous in makeup.
The language is one of two known members of the Lower Mamberamo family; it is unlikely that there will prove to be any additional members of this small family, given what we know of the language situation in the region.

One Papuan language is spoken in Australia, in the eastern Torres Straits.
The largest phylum posited for the Papuan region is the Trans-New Guinea phylum, consisting of a large number of languages running mainly along the highlands of New Guinea, from the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya (the western half of the island) through to Papua New Guinea (the eastern half).

After a series of military successes in the south, forces led by Gnaeus Julius Agricola entered Scotland in A.D. Resistance by the local population of Caledonians was fierce, and the Romans were unable to pacify the entire country.
One of the reasons for the Roman withdrawal was the pressure put upon the empire's military resources by the incursion of barbarian tribes from the east.
