"Burntwood, Edjall, and Woodhouses, are three hamlets of straggling houses, forming a joint township and chapelry (of Lichfield), on the eastern side of Cannock Chase, extending from one and a half to three miles W of Lichfield.
Burntwood contains 709 acres and 426 souls, Edjall, 360 acres and 98 souls, and Woodhouses, 1389 acres and 225 souls.

Burntwood Hall is a house that lies near the village of Great Houghton, South Yorkshire, England and has been known as Boomshack and Burntwood Nook/Lodge over the centuries.
The family continued to live in Burntwood for 150 years the last being William Henry Marsden, the son of Dr John Marsden who was Vicar of Felkirk and Chaplain to Dr Robert Hay Drummond the Archbishop of York, died at Burntwood in 1815.
The hall is a mixture of classical and Gothic revival architecture and on the south side there is a porch supported by doric columns The grounds originaly incorporated both an entrace lodge on the south entrance (though this became neglected and was later demolished) and a stable block (now converted and used as staff accommodation).

The Stafford County Asylum opened at Burntwood on December 20th 1864, with the admission of 122 inmates transferred from Chester (temporarily sent there as Stafford had no room).
Social change affected Burntwood as elsewhere, and the Asylum was gradually becoming a Hospital.
The County Lunatic Asylum, Burntwood, near Lichfield was opened in 1864, and accommodates 600 inmates.

 Burntwood Wakes Festival
In 1879 the Tuesday and Wednesdays were proceeded by a procession which `perambulated the country from Brownhills to Burntwood`.
In 1883 a fun fair had been added to the fun of the Wakes, which by this time was now held on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of August to co-incide with the school holidays.
Burntwood Parish Council revived the Wakes in 1970 and the function was transferred to Lichfield District Council in the mid-nineties.
