Burra (33°40′S 138°56′E) is a town in the mid-north of South Australia.
The Bon Accord copper mine was established in 1848 by miners of the copper deposit discovered in 1845.
Burra is in the federal Division of Grey, the state electorate of Stuart, and the Regional Council of Goyder.

Edward Burra: Stage and Cabaret presents works by one of the greatest British draftsmen and water colourists of the twentieth century.
This was one of Burra's major commissions for the stage and his studies show the seriousness with which he took it, combining watercolour and pencil with swatches of material.
Burra's neglect comes partly from such reminders of other artists, but mainly because, rather than making paintings, he stuck to drawings and watercolours- considered lesser artforms.

In 1983, the Burra Burra Mine Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Ducktown Basin Museum is located on the historic Burra Burra mine site where 300 acres of denuded land has been set aside as a memorial to the devastation of the Copper Basin.
After you finish your visit at the Museum, you can drive a short distance to the Central headframe where you will be able to inspect the massive machinery used to power the cables that had lifted the ore from the underground mines into the headframe and onto the railroad cars.

To have a look at it, is worthwhile, as it is part of the history of the area and it really stands out as to what our pioneers were capable of doing during their days.
It is located just on the Western side of the floodway, where the creek crosses the Robertstown to Burra road.
