The Burrard Peninsula in extreme southwestern British Columbia sits between the fjord of Burrard Inlet and the Coast Mountains in the north and the Fraser River and its alluvial plain in the south.
Its isthmus is the lowland around Coquitlam Centre, between the head of Burrard Inlet at Port Moody and the Coquitlam River, a tributary of the Fraser.
From west to east, it comprises the cities of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, the Como Lake-Burquitlam-Maillardville plateau of Coquitlam, and Port Moody at the end of Burrard Inlet.

Burrard Inlet is a relatively shallow-sided coastal fjord in southwestern British Columbia.
Formed during the last Ice Age, it separates the City of Vancouver and the rest of the low-lying Burrard Peninsula (to the south) from the slopes of the North Shore Mountains, home to the communities of West Vancouver and the City and District of North Vancouver.
Freighters waiting to load or discharge cargoes in the inlet often anchor in English Bay, which lies south of the mouth of the inlet and is separated from it by Vancouver's downtown peninsula and Stanley Park.

The Squamish and their kin the Tsleil-Waututh or Burrard Band, spoke a different, though related language, Skwxwú7mesh, which is similar to Sechelt (Shishalh) and also spoken at the Squamish Nation's other main population centre at the town of Squamish.

Despite the influx of the Fraser Gold Rush in 1858-59, settlement on Burrard Inlet and English Bay was unknown prior to the early 1860s due to the power of the Squamish chiefs over the area; in later years prospectors' bodies were found occasionally on isolated beaches, apparently from failed attempts to land or settle.

He then sent his forces, headed by Junot, to chase Queen Marie (she was mad anyway) the Portuguese Queen out of her country along with her son the Prince Regent and so dominating the Iberian Peninsula.
It is perhaps this as much as anything that assured Napoleon's downfall for he was fighting on the Eastern front but was unable to throw all his forces there becuase of the niggling of the English gnats to his south.

Maps of the seventies and eighties commonly show Burrard Inlet as extending from the First Narrows to Port Moody, although earlier Admiralty charts, as well as those of the present day, correctly define it as extending from a line between Point Atkinson and Point Grey eastward to the extremity of the Inlet.

Eventually that line will have very high ridership, it runs through the central part of the Burrard Peninsula which is planned to take in a large amount of growth, so to say that it is useless is really stupid.
What about the Burrard Inlet line, it should have been demanded a rail ROW 30 years ago before they were allowed to widen and devlope it and now they can only use it a few hours a day for WCE instead of all day LRT to Coquitlam.
June 4th, 2005, 08:52 PM ^^^^^^^^^But it is faster to UBC, the most heavily populated area in Vancouver next to the innercity, Marpole and would be the same amount of time to CityHall and VGH, with LRT down Broadway as opposed to Millenium line that serves just the burbs.
