Burry Port (Welsh: Porth Tywyn) is a small town five miles outside the larger centre of Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, Wales, lying on the Loughor estuary.
The early history of the Burry Port area is one of farming and brutal exploitation of shipwrecks.
Burry Port is a key location along the Millennium Coastal Path from Bynea near Llanelli to Pembrey Burrows.

The Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway (properly the Burry Port and Gwendreath Railway owing to a spelling mistake in the Act of Parliament creating the railway) was a 21-mile long railway progressively opened between 1859 and 1891 as a coal carrier largely on the route of an earlier canal.
The railway was poorly managed in the nineteenth century and often bankrupt.

"Burry Port Harbour was constructed in the mid-1800s to export coal from the Gwendraeth Valley and at that time was an economic lifeline for the region - the harbour now has the potential to drive forward a new era of economic regeneration and open up new opportunities.
The transformation of Burry Port Harbour began in 2000 when the tidal harbour was impounded as part of the £30m Millennium Coastal Park project and in 2002 the first phase of pontoons was completed and installed within the Outer Harbour.

Pembrey is a village in Carmarthenshire Wales, situated between Burry Port and Kidwelly, overlooking Carmarthen Bay.
Pembrey Mountain (in the Welsh language, Mynydd Penbre) was thoroughly mined by both Welsh and English companies for about 100 years and some reserves are said to remain underground.
Pembrey's harbour was prone to silting and was abandoned in favour of New Pembrey Harbour - soon renamed Burry Port Harbour, just a mile further upstream on the Burry Estuary.

Experts say a sand bank near Burry Port Harbour is growing, narrowing the channel for boats heading out to sea.
The final phase of the £3.5m Carmarthenshire Council scheme to create berths for 260 commercial craft and pleasure boats at Burry Port was completed in the summer.

Crwbin were 11th here last year, but came 5th at the Burry Port contest so will be looking to at least repeat that showing, whilst Glyneath will be hoping to improve on last year's 5th place.
They also recently came 3rd at the Burry Port contest in the third section and third in the same section at Ebbw Vale.
