  Andreas' History of the State of Nebraska - Burt Co.
It is bounded on the north by Dakota County, on the east by the Missouri River, on the south by Washington and Dodge Counties, and on the west by Dodge and Cuming Counties.
Burt County is watered by Logan Creek in the western part, having numerous tributaries on either side; Bell Creek, which rises in the northern part of the county and flows southeastwardly into the Elkhorn; Blackbird Creek, in the northeastern part of the county; by Elm, Silver and Tekamah Creeks, and several smaller streams.
The population of the county in 1879 was 5,165; in 1880, it was 6,937; and in 1881, 7,521.

Burt County holds the distinction of being among the oldest counties in the state, as it was one of the first eight counties to comprise the Nebraska Territory.
The Nebraska Stock Company made the first organized attempt to settle the area in 1854 when a group of pioneers staked a claim on the site that is today Tekamah.
The courthouse served the residents of the county until 1917 when it was replaced by an elegant structure that still houses the county's government offices.

Nebraska determines the death penalty as punishment based on first degree murder and at least one statutorily defined aggravating circumstance.
The death penalty in Nebraska still seems to provide some assurance in their minds on public safety, deterrence to crime, and retribution for the victims of the family members.

John Henry Stork came to Burt County from Prussia in 1864 and settled on a farm in Arizona Precinct near Tekamah.
He served as director and vice-president of the Farmer's Grain and Livestock Association of Tekamah, director and treasurer of the Tekamah and Farmer's Telephone Company, and vice-president of the Burt County State Bank.
In 1914 the county residents voted to accept a tax levy to finance the construction of the new courthouse.
