		She joined a swim team at age 69 but waited until she turned 70 before entering her first meet so she’d be at the bottom of her age group (70-74).
		Problem was, for most of her life she didn’t have anyone to compete against -- except me. We used to race in our neighbor’s pool, eagerly diving into the cool water and paddling as fast as we could to the other end.
		Dalby told me that if mom “had had the opportunity to swim as a young lady, she could have been great - on the Olympic level.” That made me sad, in a way: how tragic that so many women like Mom never got to fulfill their potential.

	Burton and Dalby
		Many in the village are concerned about the prospect of the village of Kettleby Magna being built on the former airfield, between Great Dalby and Melton Mowbray, since this could greatly add to the local traffic and adversely affect the character of village.
		'Burtone' (a Saxon name) became 'Burton Saint Lazarus' in 12th century, when Lord Roger de Mowbray established a Leper Hospital to the west of the village -- taking advantage of the local spring and the freshness of the air.
		LITTLE DALBY is four miles to the south-east of Melton Mowbray and has a population of under one hundred.

	Decision: Caution Urged, But Ban Is Not Supported
		The decision comes after the recent announcement that a farm at Great Dalby is to be included in the next stage of the Government's GM testing programme.
		It is proposed to grow GM oil-seed rape at Great Dalby in a three-year programme to allow independent researchers to study the effect on farmland wildlife.
		Today, Bob Child, chairman of Burton and Dalby Parish Council, said they would be discussing the issue of growing GM foods locally at their meeting on April 5.
