Dickinson (2003) places this genera next to the Abroscopus warblers and Broad-billed Warbler, both found to be members of the Cettiidae, and so we tentatively assign the Eremomelas here, subject to immediate change when genetic data are published.
At various times it was treated as a warbler, a weaver, or evan a sunbird (!) because of its morphology.

We were well pleased with this as we had missed it before as we were a little too early in the season for them, although a the snows had lifted and the temperatures had increased it seems they had returned to their high mountain breeding areas once more.
This is one of China's most special endemics and we were glad to complete the set of pink and mauve warblers (with the White-browed Tit-warblers we had seen several times earlier on the trip).
Could have stolen the show for warblers on most trips (if it were not for the enchanting White-browed Tit-warblers recorded on this tour), as this is a really nice one.

The Spotted Bush Warbler from Jiuzhaigou this year is of the subspecies davidi, or 'David's Bush-Warbler' Bradypterus (thoracicus) davidi (Forktail 10, P.D. Round & V. Loskot).
Whereas the Spotted Bush Warbler I photographed at Jiuzhaigou last year is Bradypterus thoracicus thoracicus.
I presume the davidi bird was a migrant on passage, very strange, we saw and heard several, long buzzzz song, though last year we just saw the typical breeding thoracicus birds.

Hence, besides Jiuzhaigou this is the second site where I had a new record of the species, though other birders recorded the species there just a few weeks after I left (according to their internet report).
It is best to descend (past the roadside toilet building) all the way to a longer bridge, where the first sizeable bushes dot the roadside.
An unidentified common Seicercus species that occurred from the base to the summit was very reminiscent of Bianchi's Warbler in looks and song (no trills; simple repetitions with full voice; much white in tail; much gray in head), but the latter should probably not range this far south.

We began well with Lesser and Pallas's Fish Eagles, Bright-capped Cisticola, Grey-sided, Yellowish-bellied and Aberrant Bush Warblers in the thick herbage, the localized Himalayan Flameback, Black-chinned Babblers, Ashy Bulbuls and delightful Collared Falconets that were plain to see as they scanned the forest edge from the tops of dead trees.
Other birds included a Whistler's Warbler and another two Nepal Wren Babblers that were singing away (to make our total an incredible nine birds!).
These included Sulphur-bellied Warblers feeding on the ground, Tickell's Blue Flycatchers singing their sweet songs from the thickets, Long-billed Vultures carrying sticks to their cliff-side nests and many gorgeous Plum-headed Parakeets adorning the fruiting trees.
