In 1841 its population amounted to 1509 souls, of whom 886 were in Bushbury township, which comprises about 6000 acres of land, extending from two to four miles N of Wolverhampton, and including the hamlets of Bushbury, Ford Houses, Gorsebrook, Coven-heath, Moseley and Oxley.
The small village of Bushbury is sheltered on the east by a lofty hill, covered with a profusion of yew and other trees, and said to have once been crossed by the great road from London to Chester.
A surname index of the 1851 census for Bushbury parish is included in the 1851 Census Surname Index, Staffordshire Volume 12, Penkridge, published by the Birmingham and Midland SGH.

This was due in the main to the coming of the railways in the middle of the century, the expansion of coal-mining at Essington, and manufacturing industry in the extreme south of the parish towards the end of the century.
It seems likely that the gangs of "navigators" who built the various extensions to the sheds and sidings were encamped on the field on the west side of Fordhouse Road behind the driver's Lodge, as this area was still littered with pieces of Victorian pottery and churchwarden pipe in the 1930s.
First in Bushbury Lane the combined Chapel/ Schoolroom was opened in 1880, then the brick chapel at Coven Heath, followed by two "metal-clad" buildings in Shaw Road and at the Scotlands in 1887 and 1889 respectively.

In the first few years of the century to the south and east of Bushbury a trace of smoke was appearing in the sky as the small cottage industries of nail, chain and lock making expanded and the first steam engines started to drain the pits and allow deeper working for coal.
Bushbury Parish spent £103-3s-5d on Poor Relief for the year ending Easter 1776, £ll2-4s average for the years ending Easter 1783/4 and 5 and by 1803 the figure had risen to £236-1s-ld.
Bushbury was only one of many properties he owned in various parts of the country, and except for the name of his steward, Blest Colclough, we know very little about his relations with his tenants.

The 1848 Bushbury Tithe map states Theodosia Hinckes as the owner of the land upon which it stands and the building is attributed to her.
She was a noted benefactress who, during her lifetime, 1792-1874, donated money and lands for the building of schools for the children of the Bushbury parish and also the building of St. Mary’s Church.
Much of Coven Heath was in the Manor of Bushbury and remained in the parish of Bushbury up until 1934, when it was transferred to Brewood under the Local Government re-organisation.
