Bushwick was the last of the original six Dutch towns of Brooklyn to be established within New Netherland.
Bushwick Shore was cut off from the other villages in Bushwick by Bushwick Creek to the north and by Cripplebush, a region of thick, boggy shrubland extending from Wallabout Creek to Newtown Creek, to the south and east.
Bushwick residents called Bushwick Shore "the Strand." Farmers and gardeners from the other Bushwick villages sent their goods to Bushwick Shore to be ferried to New York City for sale via a market at present day Grand St. Bushwick Shore's favorable location close to New York City lead to the creation of several farming developments.

According to the Daily News, Bushwick is drawing new residents from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Ecuador, Pakistan, Egypt, and Trinidad (along with some white kids who've been priced out of Williamsburg).
We've been out for drinks Bushwick Country Club (in the company of said white kids who've been priced out of Williamsburg), but we haven't tried any of the restaurants listed in the article — are the Northeast Kingdom, Tacos La Hacienda, or Lyn and Sam's West Indian Restaurant worth a trip?
According to the Department of Buildings, these wood shacks were built around 1930, and despite their location (right in the middle of the East Williamsburg Industrial District), they've never burned.

The inexpensive west Bushwick loft apartments may be hummus-happy, drafty roach citadels, but they are filled with musicians and crafters who create by-hipster-for-hipster entertainment at home.
People who knock areas like Bushwick are the people who will never buy anything and years from now they will be telling people "I should have/could have...." The only people who think that it's "HARD" in Bushwick (at least near the L) are renters who want to keep their rent down.
