The Park was named after the late James “Jim” Bute IV who owned the Bute Paint Company, an original contributor to the McKee Street Bridge project.

In the absence of a ground condition survey adjacent to the trees on the northern boundary there is no certainty that the car park could be provided without harming the trees, to the detriment of the Cathedral Road Conservation Area and Historic Parks.
