The Butterfly Effect, weather perturbation and Alternate History
Two weather systems with ANY small difference in their initial conditions (such as any butterflies flapping their wings) will have big differences in their weather later on, differences which will eventually include hurricanes occurring at different times and places.
The butterfly effect being hypothetical (apart from the fact there are probably billions of butterflies, so which "one" is going to cause the hurricane?), it is therefore little different to the time-traveller effect where the traveller changes the past, and in doing so radically alters the future.
Quantum =mechanics is still trying to cope with this conundrum (perhaps by =having *two* wave functions going into the future *and the past,* so =that a past-travelling wave from the future will collide into an =counter-phase ordinary future-travelling wave from the past and cancel =each other.

Matthew Bellamy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bellamy's piano style has been inspired by the works of Romantic pianists, such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, and has resulted in a fusion of Romantic style with rock in many of Muse's songs, such as Space Dementia and Butterflies and Hurricanes.
Matthew James Bellamy (born June 9, 1978 in Cambridge, England) is the lead singer and guitarist of British rock group Muse.
Bellamy cites some of his guitar playing influences as Jimi Hendrix and Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, the latter being particularly evident in the more riff-based songs on Muse's second album, Origin of Symmetry, and in Bellamy's extensive use of pitch-shifting effects in his solos.

 In Muse World .net
It´s not the first time fans argue about a Muse release, the "Butterflies & Hurricanes" single also got bad critics because it didn’t have a b-side.
You might take a look at this online shop, where a Muse DVD is listed with tracks from the Earls Court gig, and several extra´s like Fury in Los Angelos, The Groove in the states (already appeared on a single-dvd), and Endlessly live at Wembley.

 Where Two Worlds Meet
Butterflies can cause hurricanes, according to the classical theory of chaos.
The effect was first studied back,in 1969 by two astronomers, Garton and Tomkins at Imperial College, London, who wanted to find out how the spectra of stars would be affected by their powerful magnetic fields.

 Rich Costey: Recording Muse's Absolution
Costey would end up mixing 'Blackout', which utilised mandolin and real strings recorded at AIR Lyndhurst in north-west London, and recutting the vocal, bass and piano on 'Butterflies And Hurricanes'.
Rich Costey and Matthew Bellamy in debate at the desk in Grouse Lodge.
He typically treats Pro Tools as if it were a tape machine, not because of a retro mindset but simply in order to enhance the music by way of a more human touch, and he'd therefore utilise as much as possible of a single take before editing in parts only where this was absolutely necessary.

BBC - collective - Muse - Absolution...the 'tricky third album'
On hearing the completed album this seemed to me an odd choice to be the first representative to the shy-to-buy market, as it doesn’t show the depth and wonderfulness (quite possibly just made that word up…) of some of the other material, namely ‘Butterflies And Hurricanes’ with all its prog-rock anthem potential.
I approached this album with much scepticism, mainly due to the fact that I am a long-term Muse fan and didn’t want a lesser opinion of them if this new offering did not meet up to my expectations.
Apocalypse Please (as the openers of the other two albums did) tells us the intent or theme of the pending audio experience…rather biblical and philosophical by the sounds of it.

 Terrestrial Ecoregions -- Everglades (NT0904)
The ecoregion is also exposed to hurricanes, most frequently between August and October.
The most widespread impact on the ecoregion has been the disruption of natural water flow as a result of practices such as the straightening of rivers and construction of canals.
This ecoregion is home to many wading birds, as well as lots of insects, from mosquitoes to tropical butterflies.

Re: are we in a simulation?
This is discussed in David Deutsch's 'The Fabric of Reality', where he gives the example that no butterflies cause hurricanes by flapping their wings (unless you put one in a human built 'hurricane mahine' with a touch sensitive keyboard)..
The sleight of hand (or honest mistake) used in these arguments lies in the seemingly innocent assumption that a powerful god-like being who builds a simulation of our universe must then be the cause of our existence.
This would be true in a single classical universe, but it is not true in many-worlds theory, where we should use a definition of 'causing' or 'implying' involving a correlation between different classical universes, ie.

Soul Shine Magazine : Muse : Absolution
Unfortunately, the majority of the album seesaws between hyperactive ass-kicking and sleepy boredom; the snoozefest of “Sing For Absolution” competing with the piano-key mashing of “Butterflies & Hurricanes,” the grandiose symphony of “Apocalypse Now” with the hushed melancholy of “Blackout.”
And it’s not a coincidence that the two best songs on the album are two of the singles.
Apparently, most of the buzz around UK band Muse is generated by their live show, which is supposedly second to none.

After three albums and a steady progression, Radiohead-clone should be forever stricken from Muse’s legacy.
Those similarities did, and still do exist, but while Radiohead has abandoned rock music entirely for a more ambient, electronic and obscure style, Muse has spent the last five years crafting their intelligent mixture of classical grunge fusion, mixing in singalong arena rock and operatic compositions.
