	Butterfly (Mariah Carey song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		"Butterfly" is a song written and produced by American singer Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff for Carey's seventh album Butterfly (1997).
		It is a ballad combining elements of pop and gospel, but Carey had originally conceived it as a house record with David Morales titled "Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise)".
		Latin remixes of "Butterfly", influenced by the musical styles of flamenco and salsa, were also commissioned by Meme.

		BUTTERFLY is full of such hopeful, uplifting moments, but it is equally infused with a deepsense of sadness and loss, as displalyed on the album's numerous ballads, most notably "Breakdown", a simple, honest song with a "Tears Of A Clown" motif, on which Carey sings of hiding her sadness from the world.
		Butterfly (9/10) is a wonderful ballad from Mariah with a slight hint of R'n'B. While lyrically superb, Mariah's vocals are not - she uses more breathy vocals on Butterfly rather than her soaring trademark voice...the one that made her the biggest selling female artist of the 1990's.
		Mariah's vocals on this superb R'n'B number are very light and the lyrics are hardly recognisable...but that's not the thing that makes this quite possibly one of Mariah Carey's greatest compositions of her entire career.

		Carey paints such a beautiful picture of a mystery man, who gives off the impression of an ex, who is caught up in the rapture of "reliving the splendor" of the two of you.
		This song is scary in a way if you ask me. She seems to want to have some kind of sexual encounter with a man who won't call her back and she clearly states that she is obsessing over him.
		The nice part of this is Mariah brings in her famous backup singers to sing the almost choir-like "spread your wings and prepare to fly" as well as repeating "butterfly".
