Zamboanga del Sur is a province of the Philippines located in the Zamboanga Peninsula region in Mindanao.
Its capital is Ipil[?] and it borders Zamboanga del Norte to the north, Zamboanga del Sur to the east and Zamboanga City to the southwest.
Zamboanga Sibugay is the newest province in the Philippines, created in 2001, when the third district of Zamboanga del Sur split off.

The municipality of Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay is located in the northeastern section of the province.
It is bounded on the northeast by the municipality of Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur, on the southwest by Diplahan municipality, on the south by Dumanquillas Bay and on the northwest by the municipality of Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur.
Buug is composed of 27 barangays including Poblacion.

Diplahan is situated in the western part of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur, more or less seventy two (72) kilometers from the City of Pagadian and approximately two hundred kilometers from the city of Zamboanga, the Regional Center of Region IX.
It is bounded on North by the Municipalities of Buug and Bayog, on East by the Municipality of Malangas; and on West and Southeast by the Municpalities of Siay and Imelda.
This constitutes 2.16 percent of Zamboanga del Sur's, 0.85 percent of Region IX's and 0.053 of the Philippine's 30 million.

Sketchy reports reaching Southern Command headquarters did not identify the dead and injured, who were followers of Zamboanga Sibugay Vice Gov. Eugenio Famor, a gubernatorial candidate, and Buug mayoral candidate Junam Lagas.
Roy Kyamko said the first attack occurred past midnight, when gunmen fired at the home of Ben Mira, where the followers of Lagas were resting.

The fire destroyed the Pasalubong Commercial Center, a government-owned structure constructed in 1995 to replace the market that was destroyed by marauding extremists on April 1, 1994.
The fire departments from nearby towns of Tungawan, R.T. Lim, Kabasalan, Siay, Liloy, Salug and Buug helped the three Ipil fire trucks put out the fire that was declared under control about 9:30 a.m.
